Start with the space inside.
Make a paper template.
Use the actual recess as your guide. Test an outline on ordinary paper first, keeping the face clear of the edges. The locket’s outside width is not its photograph size.
Check the construction.
A fitted insert, a shallow recess, and a miniature keepsake need different preparation. Use a copy of your photograph and follow the guidance for your particular locket.
Fit without force.
Trim in small steps. Keep adhesive away from the hinge and closure. If an insert resists or the locket will not close comfortably, pause and ask us before proceeding.
Care · At a glance
Small hinges deserve a gentle touch.
Open with care.
Keep the two halves aligned. Avoid twisting, bending, or forcing the hinge, closure, or photograph retainers.
Keep it separate.
Store your locket apart from other jewelry. Remove it before bathing, swimming, exercise, or using household cleaners. Mirror-polished surfaces show fingerprints and fine marks more readily.
Clean thoughtfully.
Begin with a soft, clean cloth and guidance suited to the metal and finish. Avoid abrasive treatment and immersing a locket containing photographs. Antique pieces may need individual advice.
Frequently asked · Clearly answered
A few useful answers.
Is a 15mm locket made for a 15mm photograph?
No. Our measurements describe the outside of the locket. Measure the photograph recess inside before printing.
Will every locket hold the same kind of print?
No. Shallow designs need a very thin paper photograph and separate mounting. Check each listing’s photo-compatibility details.
Should I remove a retainer that feels stuck?
Please do not pry or force it. Construction varies, particularly in antique lockets. We are happy to help you identify the next step.
Can I ask for help choosing?
With pleasure. Tell us the shape, size, finish, or occasion you have in mind through our Contact page.
