Fit Your Locket Photo
Choose a photograph you love, size it for your locket, and make a print to keep close. The free tool below takes you through sizing and cropping; these steps guide you from your original picture to the finished fit.
1. Choose your photograph
A clear face with a little space around it works well at a small size. A loved one, a beloved pet, or a family portrait can all make a lovely choice. Leave room around the subject so important details are not lost when the picture is cropped into a heart, oval, or circle. Work from a copy and keep your original photograph safe.
2. Size and crop your photograph
In the tool, choose your locket’s shape, then the outside width listed in its American Locket product description. Upload your photograph and use the sizing and cropping controls to position the part you want to keep. The tool prepares a photograph sized for the interior of that locket.
For example: for a 19mm heart locket, choose Heart, then 19mm. The listed widths in our current locket collection are represented in the tool; you do not need to calculate a separate photo size.

3. Print and trim your photograph
Print at actual size or 100%, with “Fit to page” turned off. Try an ordinary-paper print first, then carefully cut around the outline with small, sharp scissors. Test the fit before preparing or mounting the final version.
Regular paper or thin photo paper can work well. Thick paper may interfere with a shallow photo recess or prevent the locket from closing properly.
4. Fit your photograph gently
Check the photo-compatibility details in your locket’s listing. Some styles have fitted protective inserts or retainers; others have a shallow recess that may need a thin photograph and separate mounting. Construction varies, so do not pry out a part that resists.
Keep adhesive away from hinges and closures. Open and close the locket with both halves aligned, without twisting or forcing it. If the photograph or retainer does not sit comfortably, stop rather than pressing the locket shut.
Miniature lockets have especially limited photo space and delicate construction. Antique lockets and lockets from other makers may need individual sizing rather than the templates provided here.
